(see comments for discussion)

Today I ran across my daughter's blog, which seemed to have the other side of the story. Well, at least she has a sense of humor ... Here's what she wrote:

About me:
I started violin lessons when I was 5 and a half. I learned the suzuki method, where you play twinkle a million different ways, while walking around or spinning or other ridiculous things. I didn't want to learn how to read music but my mom insisted so she got me a different teacher just for that. His name was Robert and his house was kind of dark and gross. I still didn't learn to read music, so my mom started covering the finger numbers in my books with white-out. I started making her "practice with me" by playing the keyboard with me. I played every note a second after she did. She caught on. She made me learn to read music. I screamed and cried like it was oral surgery. My mom started putting MnM's on my music stand for every 10 min. I practiced correctly. I started refusing to play for anything but chocolate. As I grew older I could demand bigger treats. On violin lesson days, I was often taken out of school for lunch at the chinese restaurant before I was made to go to the lesson. After every recital I was awarded french fries and cheescake at the local diner, no matter what. To this day I wonder if it was my love of music, or my passion for junk food that kept me going for about 13 years...

Should I leave her a message inviting her to Chinese lunch if she opens her case?

Maxim, Maximillion, or Maxwell Smart?

Here's a pic of infamous Max

So what do you think? It's cold outside and frankly Max would rather stay in. He's a cutie, and when we walk Max (and Daisy) people stop their cars to ask what kind of dog he is. What, you've never heard of a piebald dachshund? Look it up in google.
We've learned all about Dachshunds from Max. He likes sleeping on heating vents and under covers. He's not so great with little kids or anyone he thinks he can intimidate, and that's limited to little people mostly. He's a small dog with a big attitude.
Max grew up on a farm and a few nights ago a young man who had just been building a barn (in the middle of winter) on a dairy farm visited us. Max went crazy when he smelled the young man's coat ... ah the scent of a farm ... can you imagine the puppyhood memories it evoked? ...

What if you gave a blog and nobody came...

I'm wondering when I'll have a visitor. Sigh. I'm keeping busy in the meantime; now I am working on designing a logo for Silly Goat Software; Rick is reviving his business. A friend dropped by and showed us a very interesting site: www.johnlangdon.net This artist designs ambigrams --- words as art-- and they are pretty nifty. What else is new? In a week I should be back at the university; all beginnings are hard once again; I have to adjust to a new schedule; at least I am psyched about my classes. I am thinking (and acting upon the thought) of dropping my Education major and simply majoring in Human Ecology with a minor in Computer Art. I've taken most of the Education classes though, so hopefully if I change my mind again, there won't be too much to finish up. We shall see. Good night, and as the logo develops I'll post pics. I'm going to use my old tin ferris wheel toy as the symbol, and of course I have to put my goat playing the violin.

Silly Goat Software ... what the hay?

You may be wondering about the etiology of sillygoatblog ... my husband is a computer programmer (and a mighty good one imho) and eons ago, when the net was young, and e-bay was a little sprout, my husband developed Auction-eze software for picture posting to e-bay. He also developed e-bay spy software to search for specific items. Alas, marketing was the weak link in the life of these exceptional products ... that and the fact that e-bay was continually changing formats which required excessive maintenance. Anyway, that's how SillyGoatSoftware was formed and I am putting to use some of the domain names we've purchased over the years. If anyone out there is looking for a C++ programmer who also knows Linux and Java and PHP and any other letter combination which has to do with web programming ... just leave a note ... he's a database specialist available for small programming projects ...

All beginnings are hard ...

"All beginnings are hard." That's a German proverb and the first line of Chaim Potok's In the Beginning. There are several tangents where this blog may go, perhaps I should introduce a few and you, fair reader(s) make the choice: for literature and quotes --- I just finished Cousin Bette by Balzac and a more recent novel, Peace Like a River.
I've returned to college (graduated HS in 1976) and am working on a bachelors in Family & Consumer Sciences, Adolescent Education, with a minor in computer art. Art courses I will be taking this semester are: Interior Design, Computer Art and Drawing (studio art).
Other subjects we could broach would be 60s Eames era design, tin toys from my past, or interesting finds from thrift stores (I'm a Salvation Army junkie).
Or we could talk about Maxim, our un-neutered male dachshund (he's available!); I also have a soft spot for dairy goats and am quick to reminisce about Genevieve or Bella le Goatsie.
Goats and violins ... does this bring to mind Marc Chagall? I miss my daughter's violin and piano playing ... she's abandoned them for her film degree and the Indie Rock band she is now touring with --- www. friendsinneedof.com.
Enough for now?
